FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2 PM
LAG: WHAT CAN (ALL) SL RESIDENTS DO, TO MINIMIZE IT?

Format: Voice
Estimated time: 60 minutes
If there's something that can ruin our SL experience, that is lag. This doesn't mean that we should think, there's not a solution. There it is a solution to lag, if only each one of us contributes a little bit. In the past, scripts alone did for much of the problem, but nowadays with mesh, there's a new player on the game. Accompany me in this session, where I'll explain about different sources of lag, and what can you do to help minimizing it.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2 PM
INTRODUCTION TO MESH FOR CREATORS

Format: Voice
Estimated time: 60 minutes
Since Mesh hit the SL grid in August 2011, the visual quality of SL has given a big step forward, and nowadays, learning about mesh is a must for all creators. Whether you plan on learning a program (like Blender), or you prefer relying on templates made by other creators, there are several relevant concepts that you need to know about: Land impact, Physics, LODs, AO maps, Materials... We'll talk about all this, during this session.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21TH, 2 PM
ZERO-LAG SCRIPTING TIPS FOR CREATORS

Format: Voice
Estimated time: 60 minutes
Did you know that you can have several scripting effects running, with no scripts at all in your objects? In this class, we will explain the tricks and tips, which will help you in designing items that will have less scripts... and so, will cause less server side lag.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22TH, 2 PM
(VERY BASIC) INTRODUCTION TO SCRIPTS FOR CREATORS

Format: Voice
Estimated time: 60 minutes
When we want that our items turn on/off lights, change textures, open doors, play songs, animate avatars... We need scripts. Some scripts will be complex, and we'll need from a scripter, or purchasing them, but some other tasks are easy enough, so we could write them on our own. In each case, there are some basic concepts about scripts that we should know about. This session will be devoted to clarify all those basic concepts.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23TH, 2 PM
BASICS ON PERMISSIONS FOR CREATORS

Format: Voice
Estimated time: 60 minutes
Setting permissions correctly is a critical task in order to ensure that we do not distribute animations, scripts, sound clips, textures... against the license terms of the supplies we purchase. In this class, we'll discuss the basics of the permissions system in SL, as well as several common mistakes that we have to avoid.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2 PM
INTRODUCTION TO 3D MODELLING IN BLENDER FOR SL

Format: Voice
Estimated time: 75 minutes
Do you want to unleash your creativity by bringing 3D models to SL, but you aren't clear about how to go about it? In this class we'll give an introduction to all of the prerequisites and necessary steps we have to follow, using as an example the open source program Blender.

Basic Scripting for Builders 1 & 2

"Basic Scripting for Builders" is the little brother of "Speaking LSL". Oriented to builders, it works at a very slow pace all the required concepts to understand scripts and know how to modify them.

First book covers the basic structure of a script, and answers to questions that even some scripters don't know.

Basic Scripting for Builders 1, available in Marketplace.

Then, the second book covers how to create scripts that react to touches, how to put two actions on touch, and how to put together several scripts on touch, so you have the same actions in just one. Enjoy!

[RETIRED] Log Cabin and Several Sound Scripts

The Log Cabin

For an unknown reason, SL was consistently eating the log cabin I was living in, so why not, building my own one? That's how this cozy log cabin was born: a 20x30 lovely cabin that uses only 42 prims (all the sculpted prims have been custom made to achieve this low prim house).

And of course, all the doors in the house feature my multidoor tool, so low prim, low lag, but high in charm. Are you waiting to try it?

These are the three first scripts from my new line of scripts to play sounds and songs. More to come very soon, with more options.

Plays a song from all the sound clips in the inventory of the prim. Full permissions and detailed instructions to edit it.

Plays one from a maximum of 12 sound clips contained in the inventory of the prim, by showing a menu. Full permissions and detailed instructions to edit it.

Plays one from any number of sound clips contained in the inventory of the prim via menu. This menu also allows to change the volume of the clips played. Detailed instructions of use.

Currently working in more advanced sound scripts, featuring more options. Stay tuned!

New scripting book: Notecards

The "Class in a box" series, book format, adds a new title with this medium-advanced scripting course: Notecards. If you have followed the whole "Speaking LSL" course (or have equivalent knowledge), you'll be able to do this.

Reading notecards is a process widely required as soon as we begin our career as professional scripters. Configuration notecards aren't but the norm in basically any application we may think of.

Notecards, available at Marketplace and my store inworld.

Scripts

By acquiring any script package, you agree to:

  • SET Permissions for Next Owner of all scripts included in your purchase to one of these:
    • Copy/No Modify/No Transfer
    • No Copy/No Modify/Transfer
Detailed instructions about how to do all this follow.
  • NEVER give away any of the scripts contained in your purchase under any circumstances with both copy and transfer permissions enabled for next owner. NEVER leave modify enabled for next owner.

The script/s you purchase are EXCLUSIVELY to be used in the items you sell/gift: you are responsible for any misuse. Alts are not recognized. Partners are not recognized. Licenses are per account. If you're found sharing the scripts with other accounts with both copy and transfer permissions, your license is void.

How to change Permissions for Next Owner correctly?

The quickest way is to change them in your inventory, so you have them ready to drop in your items.

To do this, right click the script you want to set permissions for next owner, and click the Properties window. This opens a window where you will see a line at bottom saying:

Next owner can:
[ ] Modify [ ] Copy [ ] Resell/Give away

By checking those marks we ALLOW what the next owner can do. By leaving them empty, we're restricting what next owner can do.

NOTE: Resell/Give away is what, in short, is generally referred to as TRANSFER.

If your build is COPY/NO TRANSFER, you should adjust the permissions for next owner of the main script this way:

Copy/No Modify/No Transfer

If your build is NO COPY/TRANSFER, you should adjust the permissions for next owner of the main script this way:

No Copy/No Modify/Transfer

Use an alt to check permissions for next owner, to make sure you've set them correctly.

Check this tutorial about the basics on permissions in SL and the Preparing your products for sale. Permissions... and more of the Merchant Resource series for more information and examples about how to set permissions for next owner correctly.
