The SL Christmas Expo, benefiting RFL, opens today its fourth edition. We're proud of joining as one of the platinum sponsors, and have several news for the Expo. Everything is released to promotional price while the Expo is up, which will be until December 15th.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2 PM
LAG: WHAT CAN (ALL) SL RESIDENTS DO, TO MINIMIZE IT?

Estimated time: 60 minutes

If there's something that can ruin our SL experience, that is lag. This doesn't mean that we should think, there's not a solution. There it is a solution to lag, if only each one of us contributes a little bit. In the past, scripts alone did for much of the problem, but nowadays with mesh, there's a new player on the game. Accompany me in this session, where I'll explain about different sources of lag, and what can you do to help minimizing it.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2 PM
INTRODUCTION TO MESH FOR CREATORS

Since Mesh hit the SL grid in August 2011, the visual quality of SL has given a big step forward, and nowadays, learning about mesh is a must for all creators. Whether you plan on learning a program (like Blender), or you prefer relying on templates made by other creators, there are several relevant concepts that you need to know about: Land impact, Physics, LODs, AO maps, Materials... We'll talk about all this, during this session.

ZERO-LAG SCRIPTING TIPS FOR CREATORS

Estimated time: 60 minutes

Did you know that you can have several scripting effects running, with no scripts at all in your objects? In this class, we will explain the tricks and tips, which will help you in designing items that will have less scripts... and so, will cause less server side lag.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22TH, 2 PM
(VERY BASIC) INTRODUCTION TO SCRIPTS FOR CREATORS

When we want that our items turn on/off lights, change textures, open doors, play songs, animate avatars... We need scripts. Some scripts will be complex, and we'll need from a scripter, or purchasing them, but some other tasks are easy enough, so we could write them on our own. In each case, there are some basic concepts about scripts that we should know about. This session will be devoted to clarify all those basic concepts.

BASICS ON PERMISSIONS FOR CREATORS

Setting permissions correctly is a critical task in order to ensure that we do not distribute animations, scripts, sound clips, textures... against the license terms of the supplies we purchase. In this class, we'll discuss the basics of the permissions system in SL, as well as several common mistakes that we have to avoid.

INTRODUCTION TO 3D MODELLING IN BLENDER FOR SL

Do you want to unleash your creativity by bringing 3D models to SL, but you aren't clear about how to go about it? In this class we'll give an introduction to all of the prerequisites and necessary steps we have to follow, using as an example the open source program Blender.

Home and Garden Expo 2014

It's that time of the year! A new edition of Home and Garden Expo, benefiting RFL, opens at 6 AM SLT. Black Tulip is Platinum sponsor of the event, and Classroom sponsor together with Park Place. Auryn Beorn will be teaching six classes at the Expo (schedule coming soon), and she's prepared the following six new releases (including two Blender books and one full permissions kit) that are now set to promotional price while the Expo is open.

Black Tulip at the Home and Garden Expo 2013

The Home and Garden Expo 2013 has open, and Black Tulip is proud to participate as Silver Sponsor in this edition.

There are some new releases, one for creators (a book!) and the others are for the general public. Some of those items are in the RFL vendors, so 100% of your purchase will be donated to the ACS.

One of the new releases, in the RFL vendor, is the first book for the new Blender series: Introduction to 3D Modeling for SL, which lays down all the foundation you need to learn even before embarking into learning the program.

Then I made a variation of one of the mesh tables, and with it, built this "Patio Set", that is also in the RFL vendor:

The "Home and Garden Expo" is now open

And I'm proud of showcasing in there this year, together with many great creators.

For this Expo I've worked hard in releasing many new items. I'll post them later in the week. The ones I'm showing now, and that I hope help in raising funds, are these:

There's a story in my life that makes crystal roses to be so special to me. I thought that this would be a good moment to introduce my own.

This fountain will fit any spot from your garden. It controls, via a menu, the sound (to turn it on/off) and the light that comes from the base (also to turn it on/off.) You may also decide who will take control over these settings, as the menu incorporates an access management to set it to owner only, everybody, or just the group the fountain is rezzed under.
